About Indian Journal of Arbitration Law

 The Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL) is a biannual, open-access, student-reviewed journal published by the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL). It is the leading Indian journal on arbitration law, and an excellent source of reference in the field. It is indexed on numerous online legal databases including Kluwer Arbitration, Westlaw. HeinOnline and SCC Online.

IJAL has the patronage of National Law University, Jodhpur, one of the premier law schools in India, which seeks to promote research and scholarship in specialized fields of law. 

Scope of Topics

The following is an indicative list highlighting the scope of the journal:

  • International Commercial Arbitration;
  • Institutional Arbitration;
  • Multilateral Arbitration Conventions;
  • Inter-State Disputes Subject to Arbitration;
  • Investor-State Dispute Settlement Mechanism;
  • Investment Treaty Arbitration;
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms;
  • Jurisdiction-specific issues in Arbitration; and
  • UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration.

Contribution Guidelines      

  • IJAL seeks submissions under the following categories: a. Articles – 6,000 or more words. b. Notes – 4,000 to 6,000 words. c. Book Reviews – 1,000 to 2,000 words.
  • IJAL accepts manuscripts on a rolling basis.
  • Manuscripts received from April 1 – September 30 shall be considered for publication in the January issue and manuscripts received from October 1 – March 31 will be considered for publication in the July issue.
  • Manuscripts must be topical and related to the scope of IJAL.
  • The manuscript must contain an abstract of not more than 200 words.
  • The manuscript must be in conformity with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st edition).
  • The manuscript must not contain any mention of or reference to the author’s name, affiliation or credentials. Such information must be restricted to a separate cover page which must contain a brief biographical description of the author and include the author’s name, affiliation, qualifications, and contact details.
  • The manuscript must be contained in a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) document.

Editorial Policy

  • Authors, upon submission, must communicate their acceptance of the following conditions: • The work, upon publication, becomes the property of National Law University, Jodhpur; • Permissions for subsequent publication/reprint and/or derivative works must be obtained from IJAL.
  • IJAL follows a comprehensive double-blind review procedure. IJAL shall endeavour to keep the authors informed about the current status of their manuscript as it goes through each stage of review.
  • IJAL reserves the right to refer certain manuscripts to the Board of Advisors for review, based on the discretion of the Editorial Board.   
  • The acceptable limit for plagiarism is 10%, and that for AI usage is 20%. Manuscripts with plagiarism and/or AI usage exceeding these thresholds will be outrightly rejected. 
  • IJAL retains complete discretion over the acceptance/rejection of manuscripts.
  • IJAL does not entertain requests for advance decisions based on abstracts, topic proposals or outlines. Editorial decisions shall be based solely on a review of the final manuscripts submitted by the authors.
  • After review by the Editors, manuscripts may be returned to the authors with suggestions related to substance and/or style.
  • Authors of accepted articles are entitled to receive a complimentary printed copy of the issue in which their article has been published.
  • IJAL reserves the right to request copies of any resources or authorities cited in the manuscript.
