The states are affected by many factors such as geography, history, economic system, and social structure. Some states have a federal system in which power is shared between different tiers of government while others have a centralized system.

ELEMENTS OF STATE

Generally, there are four elements of a states:

  • Population – It is the group of people living within a state.
  • Territory – It is the defined geographical area with a definite border.
  • Government – It is the institution that makes and enforces laws and maintains orders.
  • Sovereignty – It means that the state has the supreme power to make its own decisions without interference from external power.
