In this topic, we are going to discuss abstract writing in which we will see its meaning, the reason behind writing this, and its components. Let us go through it in brief.

MEANING OF ABSTRACT WRITING

An abstract writing is a short powerful summary or description of a large work that contains 6-7 line sentences and is within 100-300 words. There is no specific format to write an abstract; it is generally based on your discipline. If one writes an abstract on social science or science it may contain scope, purpose, result, and content. In the abstract of humanities, it contains the background, thesis, and conclusion of the largest work.

WHY DO WE WRITE THIS?

Abstract writing is written for various reasons. The most important is that it is written to be less time-consuming, which means through reading the abstract an individual can understand whether it is worthy for him or not. It is also used in various online databases as a large index of abstracts for large work. So, an abstract should contain some important key phrases through which it can be easily searchable.

WHEN TO WRITE ABSTRACT?

There are various reasons to write an abstract which are as follows:
It is written for an article for a journal.
For research papers.
When you are writing a book or a chapter.
Writing a proposal for a conference.

COMPONENTS OF ABSTRACT WRITING

There are four types of components of abstract writing which are as follows:
OBJECTIVE AND BACKGROUND:
In this component, you will address various questions like the importance of your work, and the contributions of theoretical, scholarly, methodology to your field. What kind of difficulties do your work face, and so on? You should clearly explain your main objective and argument in your work.

APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY:
Here you should evaluate your method and sources that you have used during abstract writing. For example, you may write specific models, methods, or any evidence that you have referred to.

RESULT:
In this, you should write what you have learned from your writing. If it is science work, you have to mention hypothetical and other deductive testing, etc.

SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPLICATION :
In this step you should write the unique thing in your work, and how it is added to your body of knowledge of your content. You should prepare broader implications that you have found in your specific research question as discussed in 1 or 2 points.

ABSTRACT WRITING INCLUDES

Here we will various things that all abstracts include. Take a look at the following things:

  • It includes full citations of the sources.
  • It includes important things in the first line.
  • It should include the most concise, clear, and powerful language.
  • It should include some important key phrases and words that result quickly for the researchers.

So, here we have seen some essential things which are needed to be included in abstract writing but, some other points are needed as well as not needed let us see in the table given below:
