METHODS OF NOTE-TAKING

    This kind of method makes note by dividing the heading into various parts and discussing it in various sub-parts. It uses bullet points and roman style text in the heading and contains numbers to provide various steps and other things related to notes.
  2. The Cornell method
    This method was introduced in the 1950s by Cornell professor Walter Pauk. This method contains division in columns by splitting pages. In which the big column contains the main points of the topic, and the other small columns contain questions and keywords. The summary of the topic will be at the bottom.
  3. The mapping method
    In this method, we use mind mapping which visualizes the comprehensiveness of unique ideas and their relationship. Where do you make your notes based on this question like what, when, where, how, who? etc.
  4. The boxing method
    In this method, we use a bundle of boxes in which we write an approach, ideas, and different ideas related to the topic with brief explanations of those topics.
  5. Charting method
    In this method, the notes are in the chart where several columns are categorized and there is sort of information into appropriate categories.

WHAT NOT TO DO IN NOTE TAKING?

  • We should not write long and full sentences in note taking because it results in inefficient layouts and will become more time-consuming.
  • While writing note taking we should not lose focus on the topic, to improve it we should use color coding methods and simple and clear language which will improve the note taking.
  • We should not make notes before the meeting and other work because sometimes we fail to retain all the information. So, we should complete notes day by day with all the information.
