OVERVIEW
In this topic, we are going to explore theories about states i.e. idealist and individualist theory. Idealistic theory suggests that individuals come together to reach a high level of prosperity and freedom in a state. Individualistic theory suggests that people have some natural rights and freedoms that are pre-political.
So, now here we are going to discuss the difference between the two theories.
IDEALIST THEORY
Idealistic theory suggests the role of the state in encouraging moral and ethical values. According to this theory, the state as a whole is a much greater sum of its all parts and its motive is to serve beyond just serving individuals. Some proponents like Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel believe that the state helps individuals to achieve their full potential
INDIVIDUALIST THEORY
The main focus point of this theory is the importance of individual rights and freedoms. According to this theory, the primary role of the state is to protect individual rights and freedoms with the minimum approach of the government. Some thinkers like John Locke say that the state’s primary function is to secure the rights of people given to them before the state i.e. natural rights.
DIFFERENCE
The romantic theory says that there is a role of the state in shaping the society whereas individualistic theory focuses on securing individual rights and freedoms. The idealistic theory suggests that the state has some important power while on the other hand, the individualistic theory tells the limits on the power of the state. The idealistic theory says that there is a significant role of the state in shaping individuals; on the other hand, the individualistic theory says that individuals are more independent from the state.
CONCLUSION
So all we have learned today is that both the theories i.e. idealist and individualist theory are quite different from each other but both are the theories about state.
