🏛️ About the Host Institution

Founded in 1909, the Department of Law, University of Calcutta is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious legal institutions. With a rich legacy of over a century, the department has produced eminent legal luminaries who have significantly contributed to the judiciary, academia, and policy-making sectors.

⚖️ About the Moot Court Competition

The competition seeks to establish a premier mooting platform in the national circuit from Kolkata.
Theme for 2025:

Section 34 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, focusing on:

“Setting aside of an arbitral award in a commercial arbitration arising out of an energy dispute.”

This theme addresses a critical yet underexplored area of legal discourse, offering participants a unique platform that blends courtroom advocacy with the principles of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The event promises a challenging and intellectually enriching mooting experience.

🏛️ Competition Format

🔹 Virtual Rounds (17th & 18th May 2025)

• Preliminary Rounds: All registered teams participate.
• Quarter-Finals: Top 8 teams from the prelims advance.

🔹 In-Person Rounds (4th June 2025)

📍 Venue: Department of Law, University of Calcutta

• Semi-Finals: Top 4 teams compete in person.
• Finals: Top 2 teams face off for the championship.

💳 Fee Structure:

• Phase 1: ₹2100 per team (at registration).
• Phase 2: ₹3000 per team (for teams qualifying for In-Person Rounds and opting for accommodation).
